Lessons from Tharuna Aruna scheme for the unemployed graduates will help structure a new project aimed at the G.C.E. Advanced level qualified labour population.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to a US $ 10 million allocation for the project, Minister of Employment and labour, Mahinda Samarashighe said on Tuesday. rn
rnSamarashghe said the project was still at a discussion stage and that the Ministry hopes to implement the scheme before the end of the year. rn

rnIn 2001, unemployment in the advanced level qualified and above category swelled to 15.6 per cent of the total labour population of over 6.7 million workers, from 14.9 the previous year. rn
rnUnemployment in the less educated category (includes four categories ranging from no formal schooling up to G.C.E. Ordinary Level) was below 19 per cent in 2001, below the 2000 figure of 21 pre cent. rn
