Arjuna proposes short term solution to prevent delays at Katunayake Airport

Jan 31, 2019 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga has proposed a short term solution to prevent delays passengers experiencing at the Katunayake, Bandaranaike International Airport. Accordingly, new guides will be deployed at various places inside the airport who will guide the passengers to immigration and emigration counters and to activities related to customs clearance. Minister Ranatunga has also instructed the officials to display instructional posters and electronic color signals to make the passengers access for information painless. He outlined these short term measures at a meeting with senior officials at the Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry, Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka Customs and Airport and Aviation Services.

Apart from these measures, a long term plan will also be developed with the help of all stakeholders with the aim of increasing the number of service counters and equip the airport with modern technical facilities. Currently, around 30,000 passengers obtain the services of the Bandaranaike International Airport daily.
