Biomass Energy Terminal to be inaugurated in Homagama

Nov 08, 2017 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Power Ministry in collaboration with Ecotherm Energy Solutions Private Limited will be establishing a Biomass Energy Terminal in Homagama on Wednesday. With a capacity of generating 40 MT of processed and high-quality biomass fuel per day, this terminal will be inaugurated by the Power Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya. Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority is implementing the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded project on promoting sustainable biomass energy production and modern bio-energy technologies. The project is carried out with the support of the Food & Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emission from the use of fossil fuel for thermal energy generation in Sri Lanka industrial sector by removing barriers to the realization of sustainable biomass plantation. It will increase the market share of biomass energy generation mix and by adopting and improving biomass-based energy technologies in Sri Lanka contributing towards the economic progress of Sri Lanka.
