Federation of Asia Pacific Air Cargo Association (FAPPA) Chairman, Diren Hallock addressing the executive council meeting yesterday said that the only International airport in an export driven economy was a strategic policy tool and hence needed to be developed more rapidly. rn

rnSome of the proposed improvements include a dedicated Apron, Airside Terminal concessionary parking rates, an alternative ground handling agent for cargo, improved security measures beginning from the shippers
quote premises and better railway links. rn

rnIndustry officials feel that the development and efficiency of the airport must integrate the needs of all users at policy design and planning levels if Sri Lanka is to benefit from its geographic location. rn

rnOther suggestions touted by the industry included the need for smaller Sri Lankan freighter carriers serving regional routes, in addition to the larger foreign airlines. rn
