Colombos underutilised canal system is getting fresh life, with the private sector called in to develop four of the citys waterways.rnrn
The sites include the canal on Nawala Road near the Open University and the Wellawatte Canal accessible from Highlevel Road. rn

rnThe Land Reclamation and Development Corp., on Wednesday said it is offering the sites on a 50 year lease to private firms willing to develop entertainment and recreation facilities around the flood water retention marshes. rn

rnInterested investors will furnish a comprehensive development plan for the site, investment flow for proposal and financial capabilities of the firm to qualify. rn

rnWater sports, bird parks, boat houses will be some of the things the private sector could put in place. rn

rnA deadline of October 16, 2003 has been set for proposals, with no firm time plans for development. rnrn
