China pledges Yuan 2.4bn to Sri Lanka up to 2020

May 17, 2017 (LBO) – Chinese President Xi Jinping yesterday pledged 2 billion Yuan (290 million dollars) development assistance to Sri Lanka for 2018 – 2020 period in addition to a 400 million Yuan grant which will be received this year for economic and technical corporation. The Chinese President made this pledge when he met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Beijing yesterday. He said that China will support Sri Lanka’s peace, unity, reconciliation and economic development and stressed the importance of further improving the bilateral ties. This year, China and Sri Lanka mark the 60th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two nations and 65th anniversary of signing Rubber–Rice Pact.
