Jan 09, 2007 (LBO) – The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce 'Trade Point' electronic commerce gateway has been activated, enabling Sri Lankan small businesses to better access global trade opportunities, the chamber said Wednesday. The chamber was granted operational status as a fully operational trade point and the right to operate as a member of the World Trade Point Federation (WTPF) at the recent General Assembly Meeting of The World Trade Point Federation in Jordan.

The World Trade Point Federation based in Geneva is an international non-governmental, non-profit organization whose main goal is to increase the participation of small and medium enterprises in international trade.

This can be done through its network of more than 120 'Trade Points' located in over 90 countries, making use of electronic commerce technologies.

The Trade Point network is an initiative of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and recognized internationally for global trading.

Trade Point Colombo hosted by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce is the local gateway to the global Trade Point Network.
