July 24, 2009 (LBO) - Sri Lanka Telecom said it won a contract to provide communications to the island's Ministry of Science and Technology and 300 technology transfer centres that include free voice calls within the network. The deal includes supply communications services to technology institutes and research and development centres under the ministry, SLT said in a statement.

SLT will provide broadband internet and total voice communication facilities using wired and wireless technologies that can handle the ministry’s large volume of voice communication traffic.

"Voice calls within the network will be free-of-charge and this in turn will reduce the communication costs of the ministry," the statement said.

"The communication services provided by SLT will cut down costs whilst increasing productivity," it said.
