A grey-haired man walked away with Rs. 100,000, prize money for capturing on camera a Sri Lankan leopard endash a near studio image where the predator is taking a quiet moment.
Judges unanimously agreed that from the thousands of leopard pictures taken over the years, this stood out for capturing in addition to the expression of the animal but also the back drop and the colours that pitch up the subject like in a studio shoot. rn

rnThis image garbed the first prize and its category prize at the 2002 Nature Photographers Contest. rn

rnOver 1500 photographs, natures bounty of fauna, flora and wildlife captured in time were meticulously judged by a panel of industry professionals, artists and enthusiasts to pick the out best. rn

rnA pick of the submissions will be on display at the World Trade Centre, Colombo for two weeks, with the reproduction on show available for sale. rn
