rnThe study which looked at a three year period states that banks initiated parate executions only as a last resort when restructuring and rehabilitation of the loan failed. rn
rnThe Central Bank also states that the commercial banks failure to evaluate loan candidates thoroughly before a loan is sanctioned has contributed to the increase in the number of non performing loans. rn
rnA total 4,286,024 were outstanding as at end 2000, of which only 248 reached the auction stage. rn
rnIn addition, the analysis shows that trade related activities accounted for over 54 per cent of all non performing loans in 2000.
