July 09, 2015 (LBO) – Nomination for upcoming general election of Sri Lanka is not finalized and yet to get President Sirisena’s approval, Cabinet Spokesman Rajitha Senaratne said.
“We have submitted several proposals to President Sirisena and we proposed not to give nomination for people who are involved in corruption allegations and drug cases,” Senaratne told reporters today.
“We are still discussing with the President,”
“So nothing has been finalized yet.”
General Secretary of United People’s Freedom Alliance Susil Premajayantha last week said it is decided to allow ex-President Rajapaksa to contest under UPFA for upcoming general election.
Certain politicians and civil group have already raised concerns over the latest decision to give nominations to the ex-President.
“It is a hard decision for President to make. He doesn’t like to see the party get split due to this and at the same time he has to stand for Yahapalanaya.” Senaratne said.
