Sri Lanka Insurance and mobile operator Celltel have signed up to use the payment gateway, allowing their customers to make pay for their services online.
Sri Lankan’s are still however reluctant to spend on the web, with current transactions largely limited to phone bill payments and some online shopping.
A senior officials with HNB’s card centre said the bank will launch a series of products to attract its card base on to the web and encourage them to transact online.
Initially however, the bank hopes to install a merchant network giving customers opportunities to transact online.
The payment gateway is certified by Visa and MasterCard.
HNB officials say strict security checks and practices would also be put in place to ensure a reliable service.
