The 3G consultancy paper identifies up to 19 – 3G spectrum blocks for auction, with each interested party put through a prequalification process before allowed to bid.
Past and future performances and growth plans will influence the regulators selection criteria, the consultancy paper said.
Interested parties have till December 05, 2005 to respond to the proposed 3G licensing paper.
The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has proposed adopting IMT – 2000 (International Mobile Telecommunications – 2000) CDMA Direct Spread Spectrum and CDMA TDD (Time Division Duplex) standards for deploying 3G networks in Sri Lanka.
The two standards approved by the International Telecommunications Union and widely used by 3G service providers globally is expected to provide higher transmission rates.
