Feb 15, 2017 (LBO) The Indonesian government will donate 5,000 metric tonnes of rice to Sri Lanka following a request of President Maithripala Sirisena through the local ambassador in Jakarta.
The consignments to be shipped in a few days are expected to arrive in Colombo in March, the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The President of Indonesia Joko Widodo launched the dispatch of the rice being donated to Sri Lanka at the State Logistics Agency (BULOG) Warehouse in Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, Indonesia, Tuesday.
“The rice donation was a direct request from the President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena to me through the Sri Lanka Ambassador in Jakarta. We responded quickly because the situation required immediate action,” President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo said.
“As a friend and as one of the biggest countries in Asia, it is deservedly for Indonesia to join together with Sri Lanka to face this situation.”
