July 03, 2017 (LBO) - The Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resources Development Scholarship (JDS) Programme has offered grant assistance of 358 million rupees to Sri Lanka for the year 2018 to provide 15 Scholarships.
The system was introduced in Sri Lanka in 2010 by the Government of Japan in order to provide opportunities for executive level public sector officials to undergo Masters Degree Programmes in prominent universities in Japan, the Finance Ministry said.
Opportunities for 120 officials have been provided so far for this purpose. After a request made by Sri Lanka, Japan has agreed to continue this programme for further period of four years, with PhD programmes included for two individuals per batch.

The selection process for the next batch will be commence in September 2017.
Exchange of notes and grant agreements between the government and JICA were signed at the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media.
