Keel Laying

Aug 17, 2010 (LBO) – Colombo Dockyard has laid the keel for construction of the second vessel of a series of two 130 Ton Bollard Pull Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels (AHTSV) Tuesday, a statement said. “The keel laying ceremony signifies the commencement of construction work of the AHTSV, which is one of the biggest bollard pull capacity vessels to be constructed by Colombo Dockyard,” it said.

The vessel design was developed by ship design firm, Moss Maritime a.s., of Norway, the yard, a unit of Japan’s Onomichi Dockyard, said.

The first vessel of the series is under construction and is scheduled for delivery by mid-2011 and the second vessel is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2011.

The vessel will be registered in Singapore.

The vessels perform supply duties between offshore units, handle anchors, and work with pipe laying barges, semi submersibles and other moored offshore structures.

They are also meant to tow barges, semi submersibles and other vessels in the offshore oil and gas industry.
