Mangala reveals why Ranil won’t give up on UNP leadership

“I remember how Anura Bandaranaike went against Madam Sirimavo in late 80’s,” Samaraweera reminded. “But she didn't give up on the leadership not because of her greed but because of the risk of putting the party to anarchy without a right leadership.” Finance and Media Minister was speaking at a gathering of newly elected local government representatives of UNP in Matara district. Samaraweera added that current leader of the UNP, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be the most suitable person to run for the 2020 presidential candidacy. “He is the one who knows where to lead the country without just entertaining the crowd,” Samaraweera said. “So it’s very clear that Ranil Wickremesinghe will be the only suitable candidate for the next Presidential Election.” Wickremesinghe, however, said that he is in the process of creating a generation of new leaders to accept the party in the future.
