The laptop’s design and specifications, on par with big brands will retail at 20 percent to 30 percent less than the cost of a branded laptop, with the price tag on an Intel Centrino PIV installed version retaining at about Rs. 130,000.

Founder Chairman Sampath Happawana says the ICL Notebook is Sri Lanka’s first fully locally assembled laptop.

Happawana also hopes to take his notebook to overseas markets, with plans already to establish marketing presence in Singapore, Europe, USA, Canada and Australia.

Happawana says, while the laptop’s specifications and designs were on par with international models, the firm would have an edge over customization options and after sales.

With an assembling capacity of three laptops a day, Happawana says ICM has all the spare parts and accessories already in stock to deliver over the counter or carryout r
