Leading Austrian companies ready to invest in Sri Lanka

The Austrian Chamber of Commerce states that several leading companies in Austria are ready to make several investments in Sri Lanka.



The Chamber of Commerce stated it at a business meeting headed by President Maithripala Sirisena held yesterday (Feb.

19) in Viana with participation of the members of the business communities of Austria and Sri Lanka.

The meeting aimed at increasing of the bilateral relations of the two countries in the fields of trade, tourism and education.

The Austrian businessmen expressed their willingness to make investments in Sri Lanka at this meeting. The representatives of large number of leading companies who participated in this meeting explained about their projects which are currently carried out in Sri Lanka.





They also presented the plans of the new projects to be commenced in Sri Lanka in the future. At present the trade value between the Sri Lanka and Austria is amount 95 million euros and it was further revealed that now this situation is becoming more favorable to the Sri Lankan side.



Addressing the gathering the President said that the hope of Sri Lanka is to move forward with the friendly nation like Austria.

He said that he is also expected to increase the trade turnover between the two countries in the coming years and to expand the trade ties with Austria as Ceylon tea and Ayurvedic products have become a significant attraction for Austrian tourists.





Ministers Mangala Samaraweera, Ravi Karunanayake, Daya Gamage, the Chairman of the Board of Investments, Upul Jayasuriya, and others participated in this event. (PMD)
