Treasury Secretary Dr P. B. Jayasundera says he has little faith in Central Bank numbers. Treasury Secretary Dr P. B. Jayasundera says he has little faith in Central Bank numbers. “I was at the Central Bank Public Finance Department and wrote these reports for 20 years. It is the same thing again and again. For us to show that we are smart we make something. Hon. Ronnie de Mel (Former Finance Minister) used to say ‘a little bit of massaging is OK’. If we say 5.5 he would say 6 percent,” quipped Dr. Jayasundera.

Dr Jayasundera was speaking at a post budget seminar organized by the institute of chartered accountants of Sri Lanka and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

He also slammed multilateral lenders for their pessimistic views as well as the media.

He said the Sinhala media is not reporting anything meaningful and the English media is not fair, though there are good points in the budget.

“Other media also do not do justice at all,” he lamented.
