Nov 08, 2010 (LBO) – Adaaran Prestige Water Villas, a resort in the Indian Ocean Island of Maldives, run by Sri Lanka’s Aitken Spence group won the award of the World’s Leading Watervilla at a top travel awards. Maldives also won the award for the ‘Most Romantic Destination’ at the awards on November 07.
The award came as the archipelago’s government slapped tight regulations on ‘marriage’ ceremonies after a tourist couple who ‘renewed their wows’ at a sham ceremony in a resort were insulted and ridiculed by hotel staff who chanted in the local dialect.
Sri Lankan hotels failed to win a single award at the Asian regional awards held earlier, though some were nominated.
India’s “Incredible India” campaign named the ‘World’s Leading Destination Marketing Campaign’.
The world leading hotel was Dubai’s Burj Al Arab. Dubai also bagged the World’s Leading Beach Resort, the World’s Leading Cruise Port, the World’s Leading Landmark Hotel, the World’s Leading Leisure Hotel, the World’s Leading Presidential Suite, the World’s Leading Serviced Apartment Hotel, World’s Leading Spa Resort.
