Mar 17, 2014 (LBO) – Former Sri Lanka Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Harsha Abeywickrema has assumed duties at chairman of state-run Bank of Ceylon. Bank of Ceylon is Sri Lanka’s largest bank by assets.
Bank of Ceylon said Abeywickrema joined the Air Force in 1980 as an officer cadet and was commissioned Pilot Officer in 1982.
He has a Master of Arts in International Studies from King’s College London. He is also a graduate of UK’s Royal College of Defence Studies and USA’s Air Command and Staff College of the Air University.
As Director of Air Operations he had established a battle management centre which integrated radar, unmanned aerial vehicles and airborne observation to provide real time intelligence, the bank said.
He was Commander of the Air Force from 2011 to 2014.
