Hatton National Bank, Sri Lanka’s largest privately held bank, said it was appointing R Theagarajah, as its new Chief Executive Officer from Jan. 1, 2005. Theagarajah, a Senior Deputy General Manager, has also been appointed to the bank’s main board with immediate effect.

The bank has also appointed Ratna Sivaratnam – formerly Chairman of Aitken Spence Group and current Chairman of the Export Development Board – as a Director to the main board.

HNB’s Chairman Rienzie T Wijetilleke, is currently juggling the post of CEO, following the demise of the group’s Chairman, Chrishantha Cooray.

Wijetilleke told Lanka Business Online that he plans to spend has retirement years doing charity work.

“I have more time on my hands to devote to social activities, which I plan to get involved further when I gradually relinquish my work by end January,” he said.
