Sept 21, 2012 (LBO) - Cargills (Ceylon) Plc said it had struck deal with US based TGI Friday's Restaurant Inc, to operate a chain of franchise restaurants in Sri Lanka.
Cargills said in a stock exchange filing that it was planning to open the first restaurant in the fourth quarter of the current financial year.

Cargills already holds the KFC franchise in Sri Lanka.

Cargills said there were more than 900 TGI Friday's restaurants in more than 60 countries.

The chain is part of US based Carlson group which also operates over 1,300 hotels including 'Radisson Blu', 'Radisson'; and 'Park Plaza'.

I, of course, love junk food. Welcome to Sri Lanka, TGI Fridays

All fast food is bad for health. There is consideration of introducing laws to change this trend. Already some countries have bans on fizzy drinks and calorie content and good restaurant food for students, etc.

Success of fast food chains depends on cost effectiveness and service more than the nutrition value or health reasons. Today's rat race lifestyle and the high energy costs contribute to this.

For example KFC must be the worst kind of fast food if health is considered, because it is deep fried. Still they remain one of the most frequented chains anywhere in the world, as value for money is considered.

At the recent LONDON Olympics, one sponsor McDonalds opened the largest restaurant of theirs in the world; and for athletes the food was free !!!! All kinds of "food records" have been set at the Olympic McDonalds, as atheletes who completed their events went on binging on fast foods :)

For the record "Radisson" hotel chain is highly respected in the world where ever it is present.

What people should remember is that, no matter who comes to Colombo, the food is sourced from within (unless someone has a bright idea and imports ingriedients- LOL).

So it is only the style of cooking and presentation that differs, everything else including staff is Sri Lankan !

Bon Appetit'

Obviously not everyone thinks so:) Otherwise the chain would not have grown.

Successful companies please the customer.

To me TGI Fridays are the biggest rip-off restaurants. The food tastes like it's come out of the freezer, half going to the fryer, the other going into the microwave then the grill. The decor is vile, the service is appaling, the food is awful.
