July 05, 2011 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's national carrier, SriLankan Airlines has taken delivery of a 243 seat Airbus A340 aircraft with flatbeds, the airline said.
The latest aircraft has increased the airline's A340 fleet to six. Two weeks ago the airline took delivery of a A320-200 narrow body aircraft.

SriLankan now has six A320s, five A330s, six A340s and two De Havilland Twin Otter floatplanes for domestic services.

The airline said it had added seven aircraft to its fleet in the last 10 months.

SriLankan says it will take delivery of two brand new A320-200 aircraft in November and December and two old A320s would be retired from service.

SriLankan chairman Nishantha Wickremasinghe said the airline had asked for quotes to acquire Boeing 777 aircraft to retire older A340s.
