The Household Income and Expenditure Survey is the best source of evidence to settle the argument about whether people are living better today than they did a decade ago. The raw data is open for anyone to see. But if you like it processed, see (1) http://lbo.lk/fullstory.php?nid=975766409 and (2) http://lbo.lk/fullstory.php?nid=1489457800.

The evidence is pretty clear (except for the one anomalous piece about the percentage spent on food going up by a few percentage points). People are living better today than they did a decade ago.

My personal opinion is quite different to you friends. We can not benchmark the poor & rich levels. But if you compare last 20 years about the life styles of all people, country I think we have grown up.

The more people earn, the more become poor with this competitive life style. My salary was 70,000 last year and now its about 90000. But the savings are still the same as I have added additional expenses to improve my life style. The same situation is applied for normal people as well. With this high tech environment, there are varios ways to spend your money.

But all I have to say is just look at your self, look at your naeighbours and think back to 20 years. And ask your self have we improved or not..??

I totally agree Daniel.
All we get is figures, that means nothing, prices are going up, everything goes up and we accept. Yes, the world is the same.
But lets have a committee, government meeting, summit,,, that really helps us.........But there are some nice plants on the airport entrance!!!!!

Great News in the media. But we common people are struggling to cope with our daily needs.20 years back there were 10% poor people 80% common people and 10% rich. Now 80% poor and 20% ultra rich. Is there some neutral organization to verify this report?
