It was chosen by China Harbour & Engineering Company (CHEC), which is building the airport to be opened in September 2012.
The installation, commissioning and activation of the system will be done by the Sri Lanka-based Queens Radio Marine Electronics, Cassidian's reseller in Sri Lanka, in co-operation with the Cassidian team based in India.
Cassidian's Head of Sales & Marketing for Public Safety, Indian Subcontinent, Ehud Weizman, said it was the second TETRA system in the country.
The first system of this type is about to start operations at Bandaranaike International Airport, north of Colombo.
Cassidian is the Defence & Security division of EADS, a global aerospace and defence equipment firm.
Known as Claricor, the radio system includes an Automatic Vehicle Locating function and is Cassidian's product for small to medium-sized networks.
