Sri Lanka holds international spice food festival

Sept 30, 2012 (LBO) - Sri Lanka is holding a 'World Spice Food Festival' in Colombo starting from October 05, featuring country specific foods and competitions, the island's tourism promotion agency said.
A number of top hotels and restaurants in the capital will also participate with master chefs being flown in.

Asian cuisine will be found at Hilton Colombo (China), Cinnamon Lake Side (Vietnam), Cinnamon Grand (Pakistan), Grand Oriental Hotel (Singapore), Galadari Hotel (Egypt), Hilton Residencies ( Malaysia ), Galle Face Hotel (Singapore) and Ramada Colombo (North-India).

Taj Samudra will feature Australian food and Mt. Lavinia Hotel, Latin American cuisine and Waters Edge Japan.

Several restaurants are also in the festival. The Mango Tree will have North-India), Siam House and Jack Tree Thai food, The Sizzle which serves food on sizzler plates and Raja Bojun Sri Lankan food.

The festival will be launced at Mt. Lavinia hotel on October 04, followed by a public Hawker’s Street Food Promotion at 'Board Walk, Battaramulla, from October 05 to 07. Hotels will feature special food until October 14.

The 'Board Walk' venue will have cookery demonstrations, cooking competitions such as Batticaloa Prawn curry (Colombo Culinary Challenge), Kottu Championship, Mocktail, Cocktail competitions and cultural performances and live music.

"During the festival, spices and condiments that are used around the world for therapeutic and taste enhancement of food will be on display under one roof to enable visitors to enlighten themselves on the intricacies in producing quality meals," the tourist promotion office said.

The festival started in 2005.
