Sri Lanka importers annual meet with customs, trade bosses
20 Nov, 2012 15:45:16
Nov 20, 2012 (LBO) - The Imports Section of Sri Lanka's Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will have its annual fellowship on Wednesday 28, with two senior government officials relating to international trade participating.
The chief guest will be Neville Gunawardena, director general of Sri Lanka's Customs office and P D Fernando, director general of Sri Lanka's Department of Commerce will be guest of honour.

"Amongst the other invitees would be senior officials from ministries and other government departments directly and indirectly involved in the trade," the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce said.

"An event of this nature would undoubtedly benefit the membership to interact with these senior officials, with a view to obtain first-hand information of the trade and its future."

Some analysts say importers are serving a valuable function at a time when there is a resurgence politically powerful protectionist lobbies stripping the trade liberties of the poorer sections of the population with higher taxes.
