Sri Lanka in US15.2mn venture to export processed graphite

Oct 19, 2012 (LBO) - Sarcon Development (Pvt) Ltd, whose main investor is Caribbean based firm, will invest 15.2 million US dollars to process and export graphite, Sri Lanka's export promotion agency said.
Sri Lanka Board of Investment the firm will be started with technical assistance from Sri Lanka's Geological Survey and Mines Bureau which will receive 05 percent of the value of processed graphite.

Plumbago Refining Corp B.V, a company registered in Curacao, a Dutch Caribbean territory is the main investor in the project, the BOI said.

The BOI had signed an agreement with Sarcon development chairman Anuka Bandula Anthony Soza who initiated the project with Jim Ratnam, who represented a firm called Assignments (Pvt) Ltd, and Jody Paul Lenihan who represented Plumbago Refining Corp.

The BOI registers foreign invested projects and gives tax breaks.
