Sri Lanka's Supreme Court had earlier given an interpretation saying a parliamentary committee that found the Chief Justice 'guilty' on several impeachment charges was not a lawful tribunal.
Meanwhile a hearing on the court of appeal over the parliamentary select committee commenced Monday with Counsel Romesh de Silva making submissions.
The parliamentary committee from which the opposition out had not accorded due process to the chief justice and had not followed the basic principles of natural justice petitioners had told court.The state information office said the president has also appointed a four member committee to review the parliament select committee's decision. The names had been withheld on their request, the website said.
