Sept 29, 2008 (LBO) – Sri Lanka's Supreme Court has slammed police and bribery authorities and summoned the country's former finance secretary to court over a judgment involving the privatization of a bunker firm, an official said.

The latest development came after a motion was filed by the original petitioner of the case, as to why authorities failed to act on a previous judgment of the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court reversed a tax holiday given to Lanka Marine Services (LMS), a bunker firm bought from the state by John Keells Holdings (JKH), and faulted both JKH chief Susantha Ratnayake and former Treasury Secretary P B Jayasundera over the deal.

Court also ordered a tank farm returned to the state after a presidential advisor went to court protesting the privatization of the bunker firm.

Jayasundera resigned earlier this month after court ordered him to pay a fine to the state and said he should not hold public office.

But media reports later said he had been appointed as an advisor to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Chief Justice Sarath Silva had ordered Jayasundera to be present in person in court on October 8 to find whether he was actually holding public office.

Court had criticized police and the bribery commission for not taking action following an initial court order and said the head of investigations of Sri Lanka police should resign over his inaction.
