Sri Lanka's 'Yes FM' a radio station, station broadcast economic development minister Basil Rajapaksa as saying in a speech that monthly allowances for the graduate trainees would be raised to 23,000 rupees from the current 10,000 totaling about 14 billion rupees a year.

Minister Rajapaksa said they would contribute to the country.

Recently housing minister Wimal Weerawansa railed against Treasury secretary P B H Jayasundera for paying recruits only 10,000 rupees.

He said the recruits who were paid only 10,000 rupees would be discontented and march against the administration at the next election.
