27 Jan, 2012 16:26:54
Jan 27, 2012 (LBO) - Vallibel Power Erathna, a Sri Lankan mini-hydro power firm, said it has begun commercial operations at a new power plant.
A stock exchange filing said the 4.65 mega watt 'Kiriwaneliya' mini hydro power project of its subsidiary Country Energy has begun commercial operations.

Country Energy, which has approvals for two power plants and deals to sell electricity to the state utility, was bought by Vallibel Power Erathna in October 2009 for 200 million rupees.

Country Energy has approvals for two hydro power plants; the Denawaka Ganga Hydro Power Project with an approved capacity of 4.9MW and the Kiriwaneliya Hydro Power Project.

The plants are located in the Ratnapura and Nuwara Eliya districts in the central hills.

Country Energy also has Standardized Power Purchase Agreements with the Ceylon Electricity Board for both projects.

Vallibel Power Erathna is one of the listed firms in the Vallibel group owned by businessman Dhammika Perera.
