In Sri Lanka a new tax system for NGO’s has also added a new dimension to relief operations.

An Australian trade delegation was in Sri Lanka recently.

From reconstruction of infrastructure to assisting individual families put a roof over their heads, they were here to pledge their support to overcome the devastation of last year’s tsunami.

Australia has been one of the largest donors of the rebuilding effort.

“Australia has donated A$ 130 million this for the Sri Lankan reconstruction effort. According to a recent Reuters report as a percentage of national income Australian have given more to the tsunami response than any other country and in terms of per capita basis in cash terms we have provided the second highest amounts per capita,” says Greg French, Australian High Commissioner.
