Northern Reach

June 08, 2010 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Nations Trust Bank has opened a branch in the former war zone of northern Jaffna whose economy is reviving with the end of the conflict. The bank said in a statement the branch, its 40th in the island, will provide residents in the north extended banking hours 365 days of the year.

Sri Lanka’s 30-year ethnic war ended last May, resulting in an economic revival in the war-affected north and east as well as the rest of the country.

“Economic development in the Northern Province would be facilitated through the enhancement of banking operations, thereby leading to greater financial inclusion and better access to finance,” the statement quoted Ranee Jayamaha, advisor to the president on banking as saying.
