Jan 19, 2014 (LBO) – R B Ekanayake, an information communications technology industry veteran who was has contributed in key ways to automating Sri Lanka’s banking sector has passed away. He had been President of Sri Lanka’s Association Professional Bankers had as received the award for the ‘Most Outstanding Contribution to the Banking Sector.’
Ekanayake was a member of the Presidential Committee which draft the first National Computer Policy for Sri Lanka in 1983 and was a founder Council member of the Computer and Information Technology Centre (CINTEC).
He had served in several committees contributing to policies and initiatives involving electronic data interchange, e-commerce, financial sector, IT security, computer crimes legislation.
He was director of the state ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), the chairman of the LK domain registry.
The Computer Society of Sri Lanka of which he was a founder member and president in a career spanning 45 years, 30 years was spent in driving IT deployment in the banking sector.
He had headed the IT divisions of Bank of Ceylon, Sampath Bank and Commercial Bank.
He was the founder Chairman of Lanka Clear Ltd, Sri Lanka’s cl
