‘Operation Maitri’ rescue mission begins

Apr 26, 2015 (LBO) – India has begun its efforts to rescue people trapped in Nepal where a massive earthquake of 7.9 magnitude left over 1,900 people died. nepal-earthquake-2015-01 It is also reported that tremors measuring 5.5 on Richter Scale has hit Nepal again on Sunday morning though no loss of life or destruction has so far been reported. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed immediate relief and rescue operations to the affected areas of Nepal and India. PM Modi has also announced a compensation of rupees two lakh to families of those who lost their lives in the earthquake across parts of India. Indian Army has named its aid mission in Nepal as "Operation Maitri", Indian media reported. Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe have also decided to provide relief. Accordingly an Air Force plane has left for Nepal today carrying doctors, other medical staff and medicines, the government said. “Doctors, Nurses & paramedics who wish to volunteer their services in Nepal may contact PM office through this number 0712492884.” in a statement PM office said.
