Opposition Presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena signs MoU

Dec 01, 2014 (LBO) - The common opposition presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena signed a Memorandum of Onderstanding (MoU) with several political parties including the United National Party (UNP) and people’s organization in Sri Lankain Sri Lanka for the forthcoming presidential election. Around 36 political parties and people's organizations were expected to sign the agreement today.

A separate agreement would be signed with the Sinhala Buddhist party Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) later today.

Opposition party leaders and leaders of civil society groups under the patronage of Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera signed the MOU expressing their support to work together with the common candidate.

The signing took place today at the Viharamahadevi open air theatre, Colombo.

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaranatunga, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe, Democratic Party leader Sarath Fonseka, and MP Arjuna Ranatunga, were among signatories.
