June 25, 2009 (LBO) – A Sri Lankan accountants’ body and the software industry said they have joined hands to promote the island as a business processing outsourcing (BPO) centre for finance and accounting. The drive to promote the BPO industry is being done by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Sri Lanka division and the Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM).
“Sri Lanka is fast emerging as a niche Centre of Excellence for Finance and Accounting Outsourcing (FAO) with us having the second largest pool of UK qualified accounting professionals in the world,” they said in a statement.
A recent Global Services magazine survey ranks Sri Lanka among the top 20 centres of excellence for FAO in the world, it said.
Global companies such as WNS, Amba Research, Quattro and HSBC have set up their FAO centres in Sri Lanka among several other local and international firms to take advantage of the growing pool of highly qualified accounting professionals in Sri Lanka.
