The Maharajah Group, owners of television stations MTV and Sirasa, claim there have been no police investigations into an alleged plot to murder its Group Chairman.

The private group owns three television and five radio channels, with company officials saying that had made company Chairman R. Rajamahendran a political target.

“We believe that the plot is because he is the head of media institutions. We were made aware of a possible threat to his life last November through a police informant,” Priantha Serasinghe, Maharaja Group Human Resource Director, said on Wednesday.

“But our understanding is that investigations have not even commenced and we contacted the Inspector General of Police to find out what was happening despite being informed about it.”

Serasinghe says their information is that the plot was being hatched by a politician in the South. “We want the investigation to be expedited and appropriate action taken,” Serasinghe said.
