Kris Canekeratne at LBR LBO Tech Conference

Dec 13, 2012 (LBO) – Virtusa Corporation, a US listed IT firm with development facilities in Sri Lanka has won a top award for a school management software, which is now being used in 130 countries, the firm said. Its Àkura School Management System (http://akuraschools.org) was recognized by the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) ICT excellence awards. WITSA is a US based organization representing IT firms.

“Our goal in creating the Àkura School Management System was simple: to bring together school management, teachers, students and parents to enhance the quality of education,” Kris Canekeratne, chairman of Virtusa said in a statement.

“As an organization, we are committed to sustainability and it is through efforts like this that we can collaboratively improve education, healthcare and the environment on a global level.”

“We are thrilled to be one of five organizations honored by WITSA for our commitment to corporate social responsibility.”

Originally developed for St. Joseph’s College in Colombo the software is being used by schools and universities in 130 countries, the company said.
