Putting its money where the community level work is, the World Bank today doled out Rs. 4 mn to enhance the work of eight non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The small grants programme deviates from the usual funding style of the World Bank, usually associated with mid sized to massive community projects rolled out by State representative organisations in partnership with more prominent NGOs.rn
rnThe current lot of NGOs were picked from over 325 applications received to a call last Dec., for their proposal to develop their grass-root level support work.rn
rnThe selected projects range from helping the differently able and projects that sought to make relevant information available for farming communities to giving rural communities an opportunity to voice their grievances. rn
rnThe World Bank will review the results of the projects in six months. rn
