Sri Lanka Aitken Spence to manage Ramada Hotel in Delhi

Dec 21, 2009 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's Aitken Spence Hotels group said it has struck a deal to run the new Ramada Hotel & Convention Centre in New Delhi scheduled to open in February or March next year. Aitken Spence Hotels said in a statement its latest foray into the Indian market is meant to strengthen its presence in northern India.

The 130-roomed, Ramada Hotel & Convention Centre is on a 12-acre property ten minutes from the international airport on the Gurgaon airport expressway.

Malin Hapugoda, Managing Director, Aitken Spence Hotels, said the group was approached by the owners of the Ramada property because of its hotel operational and strategic management skills.

"We are both excited and delighted to enter into this partnership to manage the Ramada Hotel & Convention Center, as we are aware that Northern India has immense potential and this will unquestionably gain us a stronger presence in the sub-continent."

The hotel will join a network of twenty seven hotels managed or owned by Aitken Spence in Sri Lanka, India, Oman and the Maldives.

The company said it also plans to launch a second property under its Heritance brand in India in 2011 with the opening of Heritance
