Sri Lanka among ‘less indebted’ nations by UN measure: Central Bank

May 19, 2014 (LBO) - Sri Lanka was a 'less indebted' nation on five out of six measures used by the United Nation's Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific to measure foreign indebtedness, the Central Bank said.

In 'Disbursed External Debt Outstanding/Gross National Income' Sri Lanka was placed moderately indebted (between 30 to 50 percent of GNI) at 35.1 percent in 2013.

But in five parameters Sri Lanka fell within the 'less indebted' category.


In 'Disbursed External Debt Outstanding/Exports of Goods and Non-Factor Services' Sri Lanka was below 165 percent with a number of 106.6 percent.

In 'Total External Debt Service Payments/Exports of Goods and Non-Factor Services' Sri Lanka was 11.2 percent, below the 18 percent ceiling for less indebted nations.
