Sri Lanka bomb blast in bus near capital

Dilshan Wirasekara, Chairman of the Colombo Stock Exchange

June 06, 2008 (LBO) – A bomb exploded inside a bus in a southern suburb of the Sri Lankan capital Colombo during the morning rush hour Friday, the media centre for national security said. The blast occurred on the Katubedda-Piliyandala road in front of the university in Moratuwa, officials said.

At least 15 injured people were brought to hospital in nearby Kalubowila.

It was the second bomb attack in the capital this week.

A bomb exploded on a rail track as a train bound for Colombo was passing through a southern suburb of the city, injuring more than a dozen people Wednesday.

Last week, an explosion inside a train on the same track killed nine persons.

The attacks have been blamed on Tamil Tigers.
