Sri Lanka chamber promotes links with Trinidad and Tobago

May 08, 2008 (LBO) – The embassy of the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago is organizing a trade mission through its High Commission (embassy) in India and is looking for Sri Lankan firms to participate, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce said. The trade and investment promotion mission is being organized to Trinidad and Tobago from June 2-7, 2008, the Chamber said in a statement.

Maniedeo Persad the high commissioner paid a courtesy call to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) that was followed by discussions focused on key benefits that Sri Lanka could obtain by investing in Trinidad and Tobago.

The visit was the first for an emissary from the Caribbean island which enjoys several preferential trade agreements and is placed to serve as a gateway into countries such as the USA, Costa Rica, Cuba and Venezuela.

Trinidad and Tobago enjoys a per capita income of 15,000 dollars and has only four percent unemployment among a population 1.3 million people, the Ceylon Chamber said.
