Feb 19, 2008 (AFP) – Sri Lankan cricket selectors here Tuesday dropped Sanath Jayasuriya for the tour of the West Indies starting next month and brought back left-arm fast bowler Thilina Thushara Mirando. The full Sri Lankan squad: Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Kumar Sangakkara, Michael Vandort, Malinda Warnapura, Thilan Samaraweera, T M Dilshan, Chamara Silva, Muttiah Muralitharan, Farvees Maharoof, Chaminda Vaas, Lasith Malinga, Rangana Herath, Ishara Amerasinghe, Thilina Thushara Mirando and Prasanna Jayawardena.
Jayasuriya, who has retired from Test cricket, still plays in one-day matches but the decision to leave him out of the tour in the Caribbean likely signals the end of the destructive left-handed opening batsman’s international career.
Sri Lanka play two Tests and three one-day internationals against the West Indies in March-April.
Thushara has played just one Test match — also against the West Indies — in Sri Lanka’s tour there in 2003.
The selectors have left out out-of-form left-handed opener Upul Tharanga, with the tall left-hander Michael Vandort and Malinda Warnapura being given the opening batting roles.
