Sri Lanka gets direct cargo link between Colombo and Yangon

Mar 24, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Continental Shipping Lines’ “Pathien Star” made it’s inaugural call at the Jaya Container Terminal in¬†Colombo yesterday.

The vessel is scheduled to leave for Port Yangon of Myanmar soon.

“This is the first time that a direct cargo link has been established between Colombo and Yangon opening a new opportunity for Sri Lankan exports to explore this market,” Ruby Dole, general Manager, SAR Maritime Agencies which acts as the local agents of the shipping line, said in a statement.

“This service, will no doubt boost the volumes handling in the Colombo port, while also serve the main line operators with a speedy connection via Colombo to Europe and East Coast of India.”

The vessel has a capacity of 1468 TEU and can accommodate large cargo as well as small parcels, the company said.
