Sri Lanka gets Indian aid to revive fish net factory

Apr 28, 2011 (LBO) - Sri Lanka is to get Indian aid to revive and expand a fish net factory in the northern Jaffna peninsula where fishing is a key economic activity under efforts to help fishermen resume their livelihood. The Northsea factory at Gurunagar was damaged during the island's 30-year ethnic war which ended in May 2009.

India is to provide 153 million rupees under its small grant assistance programme to develop the factory, a government statement said.


Sea food production in Jaffna is expected to increase to 25,000 metric tonnes this year from 20,740MT in 2010.
